This is a country for old men

Reflections of a young journalist on his uncertain future

Some of our policy has never occurred to me that young people who should be the future of this country, now live without hope? Or maybe they think only the children of colleagues, professoroni, the people who matter, that even without a degree or with ratings well below the average can count on job security and well-paid? Our politicians will read the data from Istat? You know how to put as the son of the janitor, teacher or employee of the state? Nearly one in three boys do not have a job, but this does not seem to be of interest to our government, too busy to take the teasing, to take to the streets and hear the voices of those 25 years finds himself with a piece of paper in his hand and an increasingly uncertain future.

Every year thousands of young people who leave their land to go in the big cities looking for better education and greater opportunities in terms of employment. Every year thousands of young people open their eyes and realize that the land of toys is much more like a Dante's circle. We must fight for everything. For books, notes, the line outside the door of the professor, for meals, the bus for a 30 earned in examinations, for the effort, out of respect for their dreams. After years of study, spiritual and economic sacrifices (mica money grow on trees), we find ourselves with a fine parchment for framing and a handful of flies in his other hand. Brunetta calls us big babies, but perhaps does not know what it means to live with 500 euro per month. There is the rent, there are bills, shopping to do, the textbooks to buy.

is a fact: young people are in a particularly difficult situation in the labor market. In the EU, the number of unemployed is much higher in people aged between 15 and 24 years in that of older people. Young people are also less numerous: those aged between 15 and 24 years is only 15% of the population. Young workers are often directed to positions temporary or part time. Yet their skills are beyond question, the period of study tends to increase and the level of education is higher than in the past. The reality is otherwise. Just read the supplement "job" of newspapers, or surf on larger sites offer jobs to read the same sentence "It 's Experience required. No work without experience. Nothing without work experience. It looks like a dog chasing its tail, a vicious circle all the Italian, a country for old men anchored to a chair, who see the potential in young and formidable opponents. So cling with all their strength to the chair and the office he represents.

In Italy the phenomenon of youth unemployment does not raise any alarm and no reaction. On the one hand there is often a temptation to attribute this phenomenon to cultural aspects, linked to specific choices of the younger generation (voluntarily delaying entry into the world of work, remain dependent on their parents) or their shortcomings (minor skills, lack of determination or flexibility) which make them less attractive on the labor market. On the other hand, youth unemployment has less immediate social impact. Young people typically do not have dependent children, and can instead rely on family of origin as a social safety net, so their inactivity has, in the short term, be less devastating than that of men and women in adulthood. But these considerations have a very limited horizon and do not assess fully the extent and consequences of the phenomenon on the future competitiveness of the country. Young adults who are forced to accept low-paid positions, unrewarding and very educational. A bad start that will have repercussions throughout their professional career.

Is there anyone who said that today's youth, as they study more, you are the head-mounted and no longer want to work hard and tiring than once. This in my opinion is a terrible lie. We are not us who have mounted head, is the world of work that we do not want. Try to find a job far away from the title of the study (because the money needed to live and no matter if you have a degree in economics and then the bartender) is difficult because a degree becomes an obstacle. The employer thinks that you might aspire to a much higher salary? Or believes that one day you get the job of your dreams and leave the bar and coffee?

The new generations have a great and unique fault: that he had believed in the future, progress, and in the social mobility that their parents - than the grandparents' generation - they have had.
